Betrayal Trauma

Our treatment offers individual, group, and intensive counseling for betrayal trauma. Working from a trauma-based model rather than a co-dependency model, this program gives the partner the valuable time and space to focus on healing from the trauma caused by intimate betrayal and sexual addiction. The recovery process includes but is not limited to the following traumatic experiences that are part of betrayal: partner’s denial of the addictive behaviors, discovering the addictive behaviors, the partner’s disclosure, and living after disclosure.

Treatment Phase 1: Trauma Workshop

Trauma workshops take place over two days and are conducted with large groups for all types of trauma. This educational and experiential workshop is based on an eclectic group of modalities and includes Cynthia Yesko’s Nine Steps to the Other Side of Triggered™ Curriculum as well as Family Systems Therapy to explore the impact of trauma within the family system. It also expands on Omar Minwalla’s 13 Dimensions of Sex Addiction Induced Trauma.

Each member will leave with a customized Empowerment Map© that shows the trauma’s unique imprint on the brain and relationships as well as the new neural pathway to resolve the trauma and improve wellness and intimacy.

Treatment Phase 2: Individual and Couples Counseling

It is recommended that all partners healing from betrayal trauma also participate in individual counseling and couples counseling as well as family counseling, if applicable.

Treatment Phase 3: Bridge Group

This group focuses on building connection with others who are healing from betrayal trauma. The task-centered approach outlined in Facing Heartbreak will serve as our guide to the healing process.

Treatment Phase 4: Cohort Group

Members transition together into a Cohort Group after the basic tasks of Facing Heartbreak have been mastered. The cohort will dive deeper into the healing process by learning how trauma impacts the brain and relationships. Through experiential exercises, the client’s attachment style and protective behaviors will be explored. New more empowering behaviors will be introduced to help the cohort resolve triggers to past unresolved traumas.

Treatment Phase 5: Conversations of the Heart™ and Celebration

Conversations of the Heart™ is a process of rewriting our past story of disempowerment to become a new story of empowerment. The new story includes making meaning of the challenges and obstacles the members faced and the gifts that they found along the way. Then clients will celebrate the gifts.
